The series finale between USC and LSU ended in a 9-9 tie when the game stretched into extra innings and ran into a conflict with Carolina's travel plans. The Tigers had jumped on Gamecock starter Jason Haynie early, taking an early 3-0 lead that swelled to 6-1 in the fifth. Carolina first baseman Jeff Parnell led the comeback as he had a triple and two home runs in the contest, while reliever J.J. Pearsall quieted the Tigers, giving up just one run in 3 1/3 innings. The Gamecocks scored three runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings, then a 2-run single by second baseman Stacy Stokes made it 9-7 in the top of the 10th. Unfortunately, closer Rob Mosser was not able to hold the lead as a 2-run single by LSU right fielder Harry Berrios tied the game, which ended one batter later when Mosser struck out DH Will Hunt.
