Senior Greg Ward improved his record to 5-1 while holding Marshall to just four hits in eight innings. Ward stuck out nine, while giving up just a lone run in the fifth inning. Offensively USC's big inning was the fourth, where Steve King's single drove in two of the four runs the Gamecocks scored that inning. Jeff Grantz's single with the bases loaded in the seventh brought home two more runs. Mike Cromer pitched a scoreless ninth inning as USC improved to 17-2 on the year.
