Carolina needed a strong performance to start the Tennessee series on the right foot, in hopes of breaking the 10 series conference losing streak. Number one starter Adam Hill gave the team just that, throwing no-hit ball against the Vols for five innings before leaving with a comfortable 6-0 lead. Hill, who'd missed his prior start due to a minor injury, was pulled with that lead to keep his pitch count relatively low (72) on the night. Freshman Carmen Mlodzinski kept the no-hitter going for another inning and two-thirds before UT finally poked a single through the right side of the infield. USC jumped on freshman pitcher Garrett Crochet early, as LT Tolbert was hit by a pitch and Jonah Bride walked to get baserunners on in the first. Hunter Taylor then reached on an error and Chris Cullen drew a bases loaded walk to force a run in. Riley Hogan delivered a 2-run single to make it 3-0 before everyone had even settled into their seats. USC added another two in the third on a bases loaded single from Cullen and one more in the sixth when Bride singled and made his way home thanks to a pair of wild pitches. Tennessee scored a late run thanks to an error, hit by pitch and pair of wild pitches.
