Things looked good in the first game of the Mark Kingston era as USC led 4-1 at the end of 1 after doubles from Carlos Cortes and Madison Stokes and a 2-run HR from Jacob Olson. Unfortunately things went south from there as starter Adam Hill got roughed up for 7 runs in four innings. The USC bats also stranded 15 runners and the lack of timely hitting ultimately cost the game. Freshman John Gilreath was one of the highlights, as his four scoreless innings of relief kept Carolina in the game.
