Newcomer Ridge Chapman gave up just one hit in five scoreless innings in his first Gamecock start as USC pummeled VMI 9-0. Chapman and three Carolina relievers combined to allow just two hits while striking out nine and walking four. Offensively, USC jumped on the Keydets early, as an RBI double from Madison Stokes and some shaky defense from VMI had USC up 4-0 after two innings. Chris Cullen added a 3-run homer and Justin Row had a solo shot as the Gamecocks cruised to the series win. The only down note was a hamstring injury to Stokes, who had been crushing the ball in the season's early days. He may be back in time for the next game, but something to watch. LT Tolbert moved to short after the injury and Row came in at second.
