Game Site: Philadelphia, PA Game Synposis: Having just entered the national top ten, the #10 Gamecocks froze the ball and slowed the game down tremendously to hold off the Penn Quakers 42-39. Carolina led 23-21 at the break as the first half saw only 35 shots attempted due to the slow pace. There were multiple lead changes in the second half before Skip Harlicka but Carolina ahead for good with a pair of free throws that made it 35-34. Penn would cut the lead to one with 31 seconds left, but Stan Pawlak missed a free throw that would have tied the game. Frank Standard then finished off the scoring with two free throws. Sophomore Jack Thompson led the Carolina scoring with 12, while Al Salvadori and Harlicka each had ten points.
