ALEX WAITE

1919 / 1923
Erie, PA
Waite’s career included several position changes. He began his career as a tackle, starting some in 1919 as a freshman. He moved to quarterback in 1921 and had some of the year’s biggest plays – he scored two touchdowns in a 21-0 victory over Clemson and also intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown in a 7-7 tie with North Carolina. Waite worked primarily at end in 1922 but also saw some time at his old tackle position while serving as the team’s captain. After graduation he went into coaching, first as an assistant in track and football in Texas, before moving to Duke, where he was an assistant under Wallace Wade, and then to Rollins College in Florida.
