| South Carolina dropped another one to Clemson in a 2-0 match in Columbia Friday night. Neither team scored in the first half, but the Tigers took the game's first lead on a penalty kick at 48:45. Tanner Dieterich's kick slid past Gamecock keeper Ian McGrane and Clemson was up 1-0. Adrian Nunez added a second goal just after the 67 minute mark. Carolina's best scoring chances bth came courtesy of midfielder Kyle Guerreri. In the first period Guerreri hit a streaking Bjorn Gudjonsson with a pass and Gudjonsson had a step on his man but was tackled without a foul being called. Later Guerreri set up Luca Mayr, who passed it to Ben Gilligan, but Gilligan's shot would be stopped by Tiger goalie Jonny Sutherland. USC outshot Clemson 15-8, but Carolina was never able to put one in the back of the net. Carolina's next game will be the conference opener, taking on Florida Atlantic on the road. |
