Biography

The younger brother of Gamecock guard Bill Weston, Nelson was one of the leaders of a 1953 Episcopal squad that went undefeated and won the Virginia state championship. Injuries kept him out some in 1955, but Weston earned second team all-state honors in 1956. As a senior Weston set up one of the Gamecocks’ touchdowns in a 13-0 win over Virginia by recovering a fumble by the Cavaliers’ Sonny Randle at the UVA 38. He also had a fumble recovery against Furman and 10 tackles against N.C. State. He was named to the South Carolina Sportswriters’ All-State team and the Academic All-ACC team in 1957. Weston was a co-captain of the ’57 squad. He became a doctor after graudation and was president of the South Carolina Medical Association.
