Biography
Williamson was named All-Region, All-State and to the Shrine Bowl after a big senior season at T.L. Hanna in 1990. He redshirted in 1991 and entered fall camp in 1992 as the top backup to Wright Mitchell at quarterback. He made one start that season, on the road at Alabama, that season’s national champion. He came off the bench against Vanderbilt and scored the winning touchdown on a 6-yard run. Williamson backed up Steve Taneyhill the rest of that season and in 1993, but saw significant playing time and had touchdown passes against Louisiana Tech and East Carolina. He and Taneyhill alternated some during the first five games of 1994, with Williamson leading scoring drives against LSU, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State. He scored one of the big TDs of that season when he caught a throwback pass from Brandon Bennett for a score in an 18-17 win at LSU. Named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 1993 and 1994, Williamson opted to pass up his senior season in favor of grad school. He went on to a successful career in banking in Anderson while also serving on the city council.
