CEDRIC WILLIAMS
Offensive Guard
1998 / 2002
James Island, SC
Biography
As a senior at James Island Williams earned all-region and All-Lowcountry (from the Charleston Post and Courier) on his way to a Shrine Bowl berth while playing tight end and defensive line. He was a force defensively that season, recording 116 tackles, 21 for losses and five sacks. He had missed much of his junior season with the Trojans due to a knee injury, which left him as a sleeper during the recruiting period. He committed to Brad Scott and USC after also visiting The Citadel officially. He signed in 1998 and was redshirted that season while playing on the defensive line. Lou Holtz took over in 1999 and moved Williams to left tackle, where he started nine games in 1999. He moved inside to guard in 2000 and earned All-SEC honors from the Associated Press that year. Selected a third-team All-American by Athlon’s in the 2001 pre-season, Williams missed the season opener against Boise State due to a sprained knee and some time later in the year with an Achilles tendon injury. He started every game as a senior and was invited to play in the Rotary Gridiron All-Star Classic after the season. After working with the Department of Juvenile Justice for two years Williams returned to USC as a grad assistant in 2006, a position he held for the next three years. He went on to coach the offensive line at Tennessee State (2009), Mississippi Valley State (2010 – reduced sacks allowed from 58 to 24) and Newberry (2011).
