TOM WINGARD
Offensive Guard
1966 / 1967
Greenwood, SC
Biography
The younger brother of USC QB Ted Wingard, Tom played in the 1965 North-South All-Star Game before his freshman year at Carolina. He took over as the starting center when he joined the varsity in 1966 and played very well in the season opener against LSU. Offensive line coach Bill Shalosky praised him as being the top lineman in that game. Concussions, an injury issue that began in high school, kept Wingard out of two contests, but he started all other nine games that year and was considered USC’s top offensive lineman. Wingard’s career sadly ended early when he received another concussion against Maryland in 1967. Wingard has been successful on many fronts in his post-USC career, including in the real estate business and as a pharmacy owner.
