Alexander played both football and basketball for the Gamecocks and was team captain of the basketball team his final two seasons. He started at end against Wake Forest and Davidson in 1939. After graduation he coached at Gordon Military in Georgia before serving three and a half years in the Navy during World War II. After WWII he was head basketball coach and also coached the defensive line in football at Erskine. He served in Korea as well, then was athletic director at Erskine until they dropped football, at which point he left for Wofford where he was defensive line coach for 13 years while also coaching the Terriers’ basketball team until 1976. He won 487 games as a basketball coach. He passed away in February 1986 while living in Due West, S.C. |
