ANTONIO ALLEN Strong Safety 2007 / 2011 Ocala, FL

Biography

Allen was an All-State safety at Trinity Catholic as a senior in 2006 (126 tackles, six interceptions) and committed to USC with classmate Dion Lecorn over Central Florida, Mississippi, N.C. State and UNC. He played in 2007 at Fork Union where he played with Akeem Auguste and Eric Baker. He enrolled in time for spring practice and was tried at both at strong safety and linebacker. He played largely on special teams as a true freshman, getting a season high three tackles in the bowl game against Iowa. A concussion kept him out against Mississippi in 2009 but he started seven games at the spur position while also leading the team in tackles on the kickoff coverage unit. Allen continued to be a top special teams performer as a junior, leading the team in punt coverage tackles while also starting twelve games at spur. He blossomed into a big play man, with plays such as his sack and forced fumble against Alabama, a sack and forced fumble against Tennessee that led directly to a Gamecock touchdown (one of two sacks and three tackles for loss he had that day) and a big game against Clemson that included a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown that led to him being named MVP of Carolina’s 29-7 win over the Tigers. Allen was also named fourth team All-SEC by Phil Steele at season’s end. Allen started 11 games as a senior and led the team in tackles and fumble recovieries. He began the 2011 season with a bang, with 16 tackles , a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery against East Carolina in the season’s opener. He had an interception in the win over Georgia and two tackles for loss and an interception against Auburn and finished his career with seven tackles and a sack in the bowl win over Nebraska. Allen was drafted in the seventh round by the New York Jets and played 38 games over the 2012-14 seasons, making 82 tackles with one interception.
