Amick was named All-State, All-Conference and the Class AA Lineman of the Year in 1985 at Chapin where he played for former Gamecock Eddie Muldrow. He played in the North-South All-Star Game after his senior year and redshirted in 1986 with the Gamecocks. Torn ligaments in his ankle wiped out his 1987 season.
