SAMMY ANDERSON

Biography
Named All-State as a senior in 1959, Anderson played in the North-South All-Star Game in the summer of 1960 before joining the Gamecocks. He made an impact on special teams as a sophomore in 1961, returning a punt 64 yards for a touchdown against Vanderbilt. Anderson was a starting halfback in 1962, picking off a pass against Detroit on defense and rushing 21 yards for a score against Northwestern. He also scored on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Dan Reeves against Clemson. He began 1963 as a starter, but suffered a knee injury against Georgia and missed most of the year. Anderson was one of the captains of the 1963 squad. He lives now in North Augusta, where he was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2009. Anderson owns ChemDry there and was named the 2010 Small Businessman of the Year.
