RICK ANTHONY Offensive Guard 1971 / 1973 Pickens, SC |
Biography |
---|
Anthony earned All-State honors in 1969 as a senior at Pickens then played in both the Shrine Bowl and the North-South All-Star Game after his senior season. He spent the 1970 season with the Gamecock freshman team, then was a backup to Richie Moye at left guard in 1971. He missed most of 1972 spring practice with a fractured bone in his leg, but began the 1972 season as the starting right tackle then moved to left guard where he would start the rest of 1972 and 1973. Anthony was named the S.C. Sportswriters State Offensive Player of the Week in the 1972 win over Florida State as USC rushed for 184 yards on the Seminoles. He repeated that honor in 1973 for his play against LSU and was named All-State at the end of the season despite missing some time with a leg injury. Anthony played two seasons professionally, with the Florida Blazers of the World Football League in 1974 and the Chicago Bears in 1975. He is now the supervisor of transportation for the Pickens County school system. |
