MIKE ARMSTRONG
Offensive Tackle
1986 / 1988
Trinity, NC
Biography
One of the stars of the 1986 recruiting class, Armstrong was named second team All-America by USA Today and was named to the Orlando Sentinel’s All-South team. He picked the Gamecocks over Notre Dame, Florida State, Iowa and Oklahoma. Armstrong redshirted in 1986 and then missed the 1987 season due to a knee injury. A standout in the weight room, Armstrong was moved to offensive tackle in the spring of 1988 where it was thought he could develop into a top-flight player. Unfortunately a second knee injury suffered that year ended his career. Armstrong went on to coach at Columbia (SC) Spring Valley high school.
