CHRIS TUCKER Defensive Tackle 2001 / 2005 Decatur, GA |
Biography |
---|
After recording 52 tackles and eight sacks as a senior at Southwest DeKalb Tucker was chosen for the GACA North-South All-Star Game in 2007. SuperPrep’s 42nd ranked prospect in Georgia, he picked USC over Georgia, Tulane, Georgia Southern, Auburn, N.C. State and Maryland. Tucker redshirted in 2001 and then played in three games in 2002 while working at both defensive tackle and defensive end. A foot injury slowed him in 2003, though he still played in eight games as a top reserve at defensive tackle. Tucker worked at both defensive tackle and offensive guard in 2004, earning his first career start against Kentucky while playing guard. He was co-winner of the Most Improved Defensive Lineman award during the 2005 spring and it catapulted him to a starting role that he retained through the entire 2005 season. Tucker made one of the big plays of the year when he returned an interception 48 yards to set up the Gamecocks’ first touchdown in a 30-22 upset of Florida; he also sacked Chris Leak for a ten yard loss in that game. Tucker recorded a pair of tackles for loss against both Georgia and Vanderbilt and had a sack against Central Florida. |
