SCOTT WADE Linebacker 1978 / 1979 Nebo, NC

Biography

After a stellar prep career that saw him win Most Outstanding Back honors at the Shrine Bowl and play in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game, Wade started at fullback for N.C. State as a true freshman under Lou Holtz in 1975. He scored twice against Maryland that year and saw plenty of action the following year as well after a coaching change from Holtz to Bo Rein. Wade chose to transfer to USC after season and sat out the 1977 season. He moved to linebacker during the year and took over as a starter in 1978. He finished second on the team in tackles that season, racking up 14 against his former Wolfpack teammates (including two for losses), 17 against Duke and 12 against North Carolina. A knee injury slowed him some in 1979 but he still managed to finish second on the team in tackles again, breaking the century mark. Wade set the tone in a big win over Wake Forest, picking off a pass on the first possession of the game to set up a USC touchdown. The Gamecocks went on to win 35-14 in a victory that sent Carolina to a bowl game. Wade was a captain of that 1979 team. He had a free agent tryout with the Broncos in 1980 and now lives in northeastern North Carolina.
