| Named to the All-Mecklenburg County team by The Charlotte Observer in 1986, Walker also played in the Shrine Bowl that season. He redshirted in 1987 before beginning his role as one of the Gamecocks’ top special teams players. He blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the win over Navy in 1988. He also blocked an Indiana punt in the 1988 Liberty Bowl that was returned by teammate Mike Tolbert for a touchdown. Walker was named USC Defensive MVP of that game. He worked as a backup corner in 1989 and made four tackles against West Virginia and broke up two passes against East Carolina. Walker continued his standout special teams play, blocking punts against Duke and North Carolina. The one against the Tar Heels was returned for a touchdown also in a 27-20 win. Walker started seven games in 1990, picking off a pass against Virginia Tech. He resumed his role on special teams as a senior, being named the team’s Outstanding Special Teams Player. Walker lives in the Charlotte area now. |
