Biography

Washington was the number one recruit in Brad Scott’s first recruiting class. An all-state defensive back in 1993, he had multiple honors, including being named to the St. Petersburg Times Blue Chip list, the Florida Super Seniors, the Palm Beach Post National Top 25 and the Dallas Morning News National Top 100. SuperPrep named him an All-American and ranked him the number five player in Florida. He played in the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game and picked USC over Miami, Syracuse and Florida State. Washington took over the starting free safety spot midway through his freshman season (1994). He earned Freshman All-SEC honors that year and won the Scott Sinclair Outstanding Freshman Award. He made one of the big plays in Carolina’s first ever bowl win, picking off a West Virginia pass at the Gamecock nine yard line and returning it 42 yards to set up USC’s winning touchdown. He moved to strong safety in 1995 and started 31 games at that position over the next three years. In 1995 he was named second team All-SEC and was the team’s leading tackler. Washington was fourth on the team in tackles in 1996 and had an interception in the 23-14 win over Georgia; he tied for the lead in tackles in 1997. One of his big plays that season was nailing Vanderbilt punter Joe Webb for a loss at the Commodore 10 yard line, setting up a Gamecock touchdown. He also forced a fumble against Kentucky that led to a touchdown in a 38-24 USC win. Washington was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 1997 and played in the Blue-Gray Game that year. He went on to play for the Florida Bobcats of the Arena Football League.
