KEN WATSON Fullback 1986 / 1990 Titusville, FL

Biography

Watson played in the Georgia-Florida All-Star Game in 1986 before redshirting with the Gamecocks that season. He was a standout in baseball and football at Astronaut where he played with fellow Gamecock Bobby Brown. Watson picked USC over Austin Peay and East Tennessee State and was honorable mention all-state as a senior. He saw his first playing time in 1987, earning rushing attempts in three games (Wake, N.C. State and Virginia Tech). He scored his lone TD on a pass from Todd Ellis in a 31-10 win over North Carolina in 1988, a season he spent at tight end when the Gamecocks converted from the run-and-shoot. Watson was moved to fullback in 1989 when Sparky Woods took over. He spent the next two seasons as a lead blocker and occasional ball carrier. Watson earned a tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1991. He now works at Baptist Hospital in Columbia while also working as an assistant coach at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo.
