EMANUEL WEAVER Nose Guard 1980 / 1981 New Orleans, LA |
Biography |
---|
Weaver was a junior college All-American and conference Player of the Year in 1979 as an offensive lineman and tight end when he transferred to South Carolina. Switched to nose guard at USC, Weaver was a dominant interior lineman that year and was a finalist for the Lombari Trophy. A physical talent who ran a 4.75 forty, his constant pressure on the N.C. State line helped force seven fumbles on snaps from center in USC’s 20-12 win in 1980. He was a co-captain of the 1981 team, earning All-South Independent and All-State honors while also being named the team MVP (Steve Wadiak Award), despite missing the last two games due to torn knee ligaments suffered against Pacific. Weaver was named co-defensive player of the week in the state with teammate Chuck Finney for his performance in a win over N.C. State that year. He was named to the USC All-Time Team in 1993. After his Gamecock career Weaver was drafted in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals and played with them in 1982 and with the Falcons in 1987 while also playing for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL in 1985. In 2002 he was coaching the defensive line for Bridgewater-Raritan High School in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey. |
