RANDY WHEELER
Offensive Tackle
1993 / 1996
Hartsville, SC
Biography
Wheeler was one of the top linemen in the state in 1992 when he was named All-Area, All-State and played in the Shrine Bowl. Blue Chip Magazine and SuperPrep Magazine also named him to their All-America teams that year. Wheeler signed on with the Gamecocks over Auburn, Virginia and East Carolina. He played defensive end as a true freshman, earning one start (Vanderbilt), a game in which he also recorded a sack. Wheeler moved to the offensive line as a sophomore and started all but one game (Kentucky). He would go on to start every game in 1995 and 1996, earning second team All-SEC honors in ’96, a year in which he was also a co-captain. Wheeler played in the Blue-Gray Game in December 1996 and then made the Miami Dolphins in 1997 as an undrafted free agent. The Dolphins allocated him to NFL Europe in 1998 where he played for the Rhein Fire. Wheeler was paralyzed in an auto accident in July 1998 on his way to training camp, ending his NFL career. He currently lives in Lamar and still attends USC games.
