LEE WIGGINS

Biography
Wiggins played wide receiver and defensive back for Hartsville where he played with future USC teammate Randy Wheeler. He picked USC over East Carolina, Duke, Auburn and Virginia and was named to All-Region and All-State teams before playing in the 1992 Shrine Bowl. He played briefly in 1993 but was ultimately redshirted. Wiggins started a handful of games at cornerback in ’94 while establishing himself as a leader on Carolina’s special teams units. He blocked five kicks that season, putting him well on his way to being USC’s career leader in blocked kicks. In ’94 he swatted down three field goal tries and two extra point attempts. Coach Brad Lawing installed him in that key jumper role after Wiggins blocked a kick in the ’94 spring game. He also picked off a pass in the fourth quarter to preserve a win over Kentucky. Wiggins moved to strong safety at the start of the ’95 season but ended up starting two games at corner. He blocked a punt in the win over Kent State that Benji Young returned for a touchdown. Wiggins became a full-time starter at corner the next season but continued to make big plays on special teams, such as tackle of Vanderbilt punter Bill Marinangel at the Commodore 14 to set up a TD in a 27-0 win. He also had a key block in a win over Kentucky in 1997. Wiggins was a co-captain that season and was given the Steve Wadiak MVP Award. After playing in the 1998 Hula Bowl all star game, Wiggins was drafted by the Tennessee Oilers (soon to be Titans) in the sixth round of the 1998 draft and had camp stints with the Oilers in ’98 and the Panthers in ’99 before playing with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe in 1999 and the New Jersey Gladiators of the Arena Football League in 2001. He then joined the Navy and currently works at a Naval hospital.
