BOO WILLIAMS Running Back 1996 / 1999 Blackshear, GA

Biography

Williams first earned notice rushing for over 1,000 yards for Lee County High School in 1993. He transferred to Pierce County before the 199t season and was named All-State for his work at running back. Williams played in the prestigious Georgia-Florida All-Star Game in 1995 and was named MVP of the game. He was named the number three running back in the state by Bluechip Illustrated. Williams picked the Gamecocks over offers from West Virginia and Florida State. His senior season included a 243-yard, 3 TD game against Screven County. Not expected to see much playing time as a freshman, Williams was thrust into the spotlight when Duce Staley and Scott Moritz went down with injuries and rushed for 110 yards against Vanderbilt. As a sophomore Williams started five of the last six games of the year and his highlights that year included a 100-yard kickoff return for a score in a win over Vanderbilt and scoring on a 48-yard run and a 45-yard pass in the victory against Arkansas. He also returned a kickoff for a TD against Florida and earned first team All-SEC honors as a kick returner. He started the 1998 season opener and started again later in the year against Mississippi and Kentucky while splitting time with Troy Hambrick all season. He had 167 yards receiving against Kentucky, including a 62-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Wright. He began the 1999 season as the starting tailback, but was lost for the year when he was hit during a kickoff return against Mississippi and tore both his MCL and his ACL. Williams now lives in Alaska.
