Biography
One of the state’s highest profile recruits, Williamson was already making a name for himself as a sophomore at Silver Bluff when he was named to the all-area team by the Augusta Chronicle. As a junior at Silver Bluff, as he rushed for 102 yards in a touchdown as his team defeated Abbeville for the 2001 Class AA state championship. He totaled 2,410 yards as a senior, while being rated as the number five receiver in the nation by SuperPrep; the High School Sports Report named him the Class AA Player of the Year. He was named to the Shrine Bowl in 2001 and selected the Gamecocks after official visits to Tennesse and Georgia. Williamson didn’t catch a pass until the fourth game of his freshman season but then began to break out, scoring against both Temple and Vanderbilt, then having 100-plus yard games against Kentucky and Clemson. He was named Freshman All-SEC for his heroics, which also included a 60-yard TD against LSU and also won the Scott Sinclair Outstanding Freshman Award for USC. He started 21 games over the next two seasons while establishing himself as a top deep threat. Williamson scored on a 99-yard touchdown reception in USC’s upset of #15 Virginia. His junior season would be his best, which included a 3-game stretch (Georgia, South Florida, Troy) in which he caught 14 passes for 446 yards and four TDs, highlighted by a 210-yard game against USF. Williamson was named All-SEC by the Associated Press at the conclusion of the 2004 season, and decided to turn pro a year early. He was taken 7th overall in the 205 draft by the Minnesota Vikings and played three seasons there and two more with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 87 career receptions for 1,131 yards, with his best year being a 37 catch season in 2006.
