Biography
A standout quarterback and running back at Lincoln County, Williams was also a Class B All-State linebacker in 1974. He was made a full-time defensive player when he joined the Gamecocks in 1975. He redshirted in 1976 after briefly seeing time with the varsity in 1975. Williams was moved to defensive end in 1977, where he backed up John Dantonio and Roger Woolbright. He became a more frequent contributor the next season when he slid inside to defensive tackle, working behind Fred Sinclair at right defensive tackle in 1978, then behind Chuck Allen at the same position as a senior in 1979. He went on to private business ownership in Columbia.
