| Wimberly was a sophomore sensation for the Gamecocks, returning a punt 50 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball – part of a 33-0 win over Erskine in 1925. He started at halfback in ’25 and ’26, and had a key touchdown run in the 12-0 win over Maryland in 1926. Wimberly missed the entire 1927 season with an injury but came back to claim his starting spot in 1928 and was named All-State for his play. He picked off a pass against Virginia and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown in USC’s 24-13 win. |
