| Windsor was all-county as a senior in high school in 1984 before redshirting in 1985. He spent 1986 backing up Brad Edwards and Ron Rabune at strong safety and was a beneficiary of the Gamecocks’ new defensive scheme in 1987 as Joe Lee Dunn installed a 5-2 blitz-happy scheme. Windsor prospered, finishing third on the team in sacks and sixth in tackles. He had served notice in the spring he was ready to make an impact, starring in one spring scrimmage with two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Windsor had an interception in the win over East Carolina that season. He was a leader on the defense again in 1988, playing a hybrid strong safety / rush end position. The defensive scheme changed again when Sparky Woods came in in 1989 and Windsor was installed as a starting outside linebacker in a more traditional 4-3. He made one of the big plays in a 1989 win over Georgia in Athens, as he threw Rodney Hampton for a five-yard loss on first down of Georgia’s final possession. He also was a key figure in the 27-20 win over UNC, returning an interception sixty yards for the winning score. Windsor was one of the co-captains of the ’89 squad. |
