ALONZO WINFIELD Linebacker 2007 / 2010 Winston-Salem, NC

Biography

A top 30 player in North Carolina by both Rivals.com and SuperPrep, Winfield originally committed to Tennessee before choosing the Gamecocks over the in-state Wolfpack and Tar Heels. He redshirted in 2007, then worked largely on special teams in 2008. Winfield began the 2008 season as the starting spur and made three starts that year. He had a key stop in the win over Kentucky that year when he stuffed Derrick Locke for no gain on a 3rd and 1 at the USC 48 in the fourth quarter of a 28-26 win. He saw limited time in 2010, making four tackles in a win over Troy. Winfield chose to forgo his senior season in 2011 after spring practice. Winfield made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2010.
