GRAYSON WOLF
Quarterback
1931 / 1934
Charleston, SC
Biography
Wolf earned honorable mention All-state honors in 1931. He led the Gamecocks to a 7-6 win over Villanova in 1932 by hitting end Tom Craig with a 32-yard touchdown pass and his passing to fullback Bob Freeman led Carolina to a win over Sewanee that year as well. It was Wolf’s punt that set up the winning score against Clemson in ’32 – he punted from the USC 35 and as the ball bounced near the Clemson goal line the Tigers’ Gene Willimon tried to catch it but had it bounce off and it was recovered by the Gamecocks’ Henry Williard for a touchdown. Wolf kicked both extra points in the 14-0 win over the Tigers. Wolf missed the Wofford game in 1933 due to injuries. He lettered in baseball, basketball and football at Carolina and his baseball exploits included beating the Tigers with a 6-0 shutout in 1933 and a 2-hitter in an 8-1 win over Clemson in 1934. After graduation Wolf was signed by the New York Yankees in baseball as a pitcher.
