ZIP ZANDERS Linebacker 1985 / 1986 Vienna, GA

Biography

Zanders redshirted in 1985 then won the starting middle linebacker job in 1986, beating out senior Willie Hill. He started the season opener against Miami and was named Special Teams Player of the Week for that game, blocking a punt in addition to coming up with a sack of Vinnie Testaverde in the loss. Zanders broke a thumb in the game that hurt his effectiveness. Matt McKernan took over the middle linebacker spot after that but Zanders played frequently. Zanders transferred to Western Kentucky in 1987 and started for the Hilltoppers in 1988 and 1989.
