| #14 South Carolina made it three wins in a row over #18 Clemson with a dominating second half leading to a 34-13 victory. The Gamecocks scored first, driving from their own 23 to the Tiger 22 before settling for a Jay Wooten field goal, with the big play being a 19-yard run by Connor Shaw on 3rd and four from the USC 41. The Tigers went three and out and Carolina struck with a 75-yard drive, highlighted by a 49-yard touchdown pass from Shaw to Bruce Ellington. Clemson got their first points four minutes into the second, as Tajh Boyd foudn Dwayne Allen on a nine yard touchdown pass. A blocked punt led to a Tiger field goal and a 10-10 tie game around the six minute mark but USC would add one more first half score. Carolina took over at their 40 and Shaw rushed for 14 on the first play to get into Clemson territory. A few plays later a Shaw to Alshon Jeffery pass got the Gamecocks into the red zone and Shaw finished the drive with a 15 yard touchdown run. USC extended the lead on their first possession of the second half as Shaw and Busta Anderson hooked up for 55 yards to the Tiger five and the two collaborated two plays later on a two yard touchdown pass. Late in the third and into the start of the fourth quarter the Tigers reached the USC 14, but Melvin Ingram sacked Boyd for a loss of nine and Clemson had to settle for a field goal to make it 24-13. USC countered with a seven and a half mintue drive that ended with another field goal from Wooten to restore the two touchdown lead. On the third play after the kickoff linebacker DeVonte Holloman picked off a Boyd pass and returned it 26 yards to the Tiger 19 and one play later Shaw hit Jeffery for an 18-yard touchdown. Clemson's final possession would reach the USC 41, but C.C. Whitlock broke up the first down pass, a second Boyd pass fell incomplete, Ingram tackled Boyd for no gain on third down and Travian Robertson capped the game with an exclamation point by sacking Boyd for a three yard loss on fourth down. Shaw finished the game with 210 yards and three touchdowns passing while picking 107 yards rushing and adding a fourth score on the ground.; |
