1997 - Carolina got off to a slow start, owning a 6-5 record as SEC play began. The conference opener however would turn the tide for the Gamecocks, launching a school best ever 15-1 record in SEC games. The resurgence was sparked by the return of forward William Gallman from injury. The big man from Chester was 8 for 9 from the field and had 19 points and 13 rebounds. B.J. McKie tossed in another 18. USC had an 11 point lead late in the first half and after Auburn made a run to close the gap to one point Carolina went on a 10-0 run and had control the rest of the way. USC held Auburn to 37 percent shooting overall and 30 percent in the second half. The Gamecocks' win streak would reach 13 straight before their only conference loss of the year at Georgia in February.
