2003 - In a interconference loser goes home battle at the College World Series, USC took a big lead on LSU, blew the lead, then rallied for an 11-10 win to eliminate the Tigers and advance. The Gamecocks took an early 6-0 lead as with two outs a Landon Powell RBI single got the gates opened and were followed by RBI singles from Bryan Triplett and Trey McDaniel, a 2-run single by Steven Tolleson and an RBI double from Michael Campbell. After a solo homer by Justin Harris in the second the Carolina bats went quiet while LSU climbed back into the game. The Tigers scored 3 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th as they took a 10-7 lead. Just as things were looking bleak Kevin Melillo homered in the seventh to start to cut into the LSU lead. USC took the lead for good in the bottom of the 8th as a Brian Buscher single scored Jon Coutlangus and Tolleson to tie the game, then a double from Powell scored Buscher with the game winner. The pitching hero on the day was Matt Campbell, who pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief and allowed just one unearned run and two hits to keep USC in the game.
