2012 - The Gamecocks opened CWS play by knocking off Florida 7-3. Erik Payne's three run triple in the fifth was the big blow for Carolina, as they went from trailing to 2-0 to leading 5-2 that inning. CF Evan Marzilli led off the inning with a double, followed by a single by Christian Walker, a walk to Adam Matthews and Payne's big hit off the right-center wall. LB Dantzler doubled to score Payne and came home on a single by Chase Vergason. Michael Roth worked 6 1/3 innings for the win, becoming only the fourth player in CWS history to record a victory in three different seasons in Omaha. Matt Price pitched two scoreless innings to record save number 12 on the year for him. It was also his 42nd career save, a new SEC record.
