Today's Date In Gamecock History
June 17th
No victories on the calendar for today's date in USC's baseball history, so we'll say happy birthday to former Gamecock baseball standout Phil Disher. The Aiken native was a two-time All-SEC honoree and was named an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2007. Disher was the MVP of the Charlottesville NCAA Regional in 2006 and was also named to the All-Regional team in 2007. Among USC awards he also won the Fred Brinkman Inspirational Award in 2005 and the Irby Raines Coaches' Award in 2007. Disher clubbed 34 home runs over his final two seasons in a Gamecock uniform, finishing his career with a .297 average, 42 home runs and 148 runs driven in. Disher played two seasons in the Astros chain, hitting .304 with 13 home runs in 2008 and has also coached at Wofford, USC-Aiken and Georgetown.
