2002 - Carolina advanced to within a game of the College World Series championship by defeating Clemson 12-4. Designated hitter Trey Dyson was the offensive star of the victory as he hammered a pair of two-run homers and Landon Powell and Steve Thomas each added home runs. The USC pitching staff got off to a rough start, allowing four runs in the first 3 2/3 innings, but Matt Campbell rode to the rescue from the bullpen, pitching the final 5 1/3 and allowing just two hits and no runs. Seven different Gamecocks had two hits and in addition to Dyson's four RBI, Drew Meyer and Justin Harris each drove in two. The win set up a second USC-Clemson matchup with the winner advancing to the championship game.
