2002 - With a berth in the College World Series championship game on the line, the Gamecocks blasted Clemson 10-2, eliminating the Tigers behind a complete game from pitcher Steven Bondurant. The lefty from the Charlotte area scattered eight hits, allowing just a run in the third and one in the ninth. USC got on the board first, putting up three runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Landon Powell and an RBI single from Kevin Melillo. The Gamecocks added two more in the third as Trey Dyson reached on an error by Tiger SS Khalil Greene and scored on a wild pitch and Garris Gonce singled and eventually came home on a single by Brian Buscher. Carolina really blew it open in the eighth, scoring five runs to push their lead to 10-1. Justin Harris got things going with a double and all the runs scored with two outs. Gonce had a two-run single, Powell brought another home by drawing a walk with the bases loaded and Melillo scored two more on a single to right. Clemson scored one in the ninth and had the bases loaded, but Bondurant got Greene to fly out to Tim Seaton for the final out. USC advanced to play Texas in the championship game with the victory.
