2004 - The Gamecocks stood one victory away from the College World Series championship game after knocking off Cal State-Fullerton 5-3. Bryan Triplett was the offensive hero on the day for Carolina, hitting a two-run homer in the second to put USC up 3-2, then driving in the winning run in the seventh with a single to score Davy Gregg. The pitching staff shut down the Titans after the fourth as starter Jason Fletcher and Chad Blackwell pitched the final five innings without giving up a hit. Blackwell picked up his 20th save in the gave which led the country. Other standouts at the plate included Steve Pearce, who had three hits and drove in the final run of the game, Steve Tolleson, who had a double and a single, and Davy Gregg, who had a pair of hits and scored the go ahead run on Triplett's single. The win set up a rematch with the Titans, who had future MLBers Justin Turner and Kurt Suzuki among its hitters, to face Texas in the championship.
