Happy Birthday to Mathew Campbell - One of the first big recruits of the Sparky Woods era, Campbell was named to the Orlando Sentinel's All-Southern team as a senior at North Augusta before picking USC over Georgia, Tennessee and Clemson. An outstanding blocker, Campbell saw playing time right away as a true freshman, though he only had one reception that season (1990). Over the next three seasons he would catch 23 more for 228 yards while forming a strong tight end duo with Boomer Foster. Campbell played in the Senior Bowl following his senior season at USC and was one of the first eight players signed by the expansion Carolina Panthers. He converted to the offensive line in the NFL and played from 1995 through 2001 with the Panthers and Redskins. After retirement Campbell coached at Bluffton High School before working as offensive coordinator under Sparky Woods at VMI. He is currently head football coach and athletic director at Lugoff-Elgin.
