Happy Birthday to Scott Hagler! - Hagler redshirted in 1982 then took over as the primary kickoff man in 1983. He won the team's Ed Guerard Academic Award that year, then took over from the graduated Mark Fleetwood as the full-time kicker in 1984. He began an impressive streak of 82 consecutive successful extra point attempts by making all 45 of his extra points that year, none bigger than the one that provided the margin of victory in a 22-21 win over Clemson. He also made field goals of 23 and 41 yards in that game. His longest kick of the year, 49 yards, came in a win over Pittsburgh. Hagler was named All-State in 1985 after again making every extra point try. He made a pair of field goals in wins over both Appalachian State and Navy and hit a 52-yarder against N.C. State. Hagler did miss one extra point attempt as a senior but also made a career high in field goals (10) and field goal percentage (66.7). He made field goals of 41 and 45 yards against N.C. State and had a 50-yarder against Wake Forest. He played for the Seattle Seahawks in 1987 before going into a career in banking. He lives in Columbia now.
