| Atwaters was named honorable mention All-State by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1986 and then made All-State according to that same newspaper as a senior at Murphy in 1987. He caught 127 passes for 2,095 yards over his final two seasons in high school. Atwaters earned some All-American attention before signing with the Gamecocks. He did not qualify for admission and enrolled at South Carolina State instead. |
