Biography
An all-county linebacker at Miami Lakes, Veal saw time as a true freshman, backing up Jacyn Adamski at strong safety. He backed up senior Lance Garrett at that same position in 1977; one of his big plays that season was recovering a Wake Forest fumble at the Demon Deacon 12; the Gamecocks scored a touchdown immediately afterwards and went on to a 24-14 win. Veal took over as the starting strong safety in 1978 and once again a fumble recovery was one of the highlights of his season. Veal picked up a Georgia fumble at the Bulldog 32, setting up a George Rogers touchdown run in USC’s 27-10 upset of Georgia. He lives in Miami now.
