GERALD WITT Defensive Tackle 1972 / 1974 Greenwood, SC |
Biography |
---|
Witt made the Shrine Bowl as a senior defensive lineman at Greenwood and played in the 1971 North-South All-Star Game as well. He saw a good deal of time in 1972 at middle guard, backing up Dana Carpenter and Johnny Payne. Witt had an interception that set up a touchdown run by Jeff Grantz in the loss to Virginia Tech that year. He was shifted to offensive guard for the 1973 season then returned to defense in 1974 and backed up Kerry DePasquale at left defensive tackle. Witt was a long-time (1995-2005) principal at Irmo High School and made national news in 1998 when he cancelled a free performance by the Indigo Girls at Irmo. He resigned from that post in 2005 and became superintendent of schools for Greenwood County. |
