BILLY WOOD Quarterback 1962 / 1962 Augusta, GA |
Biography |
---|
A highly recruited player, Wood picked the Gamecocks over Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Army and Vanderbilt. He was one of three players (QB Jim Tom Oliver of Orangeburg and QB James Campbell of Lamar) who originally committed to the Tigers and then signed on with the Gamecocks, resulting in Clemson coach Frank Howard demanding an investigation of new USC head man Marvin Bass’ recruiting practices. Wood had led Richmond Academy to a 10-1-1 record as a senior. |
