STEVE YOUNG Kicker 1973 / 1975 Seneca, SC

Biography

A quarterback in high school, Young took up kicking as a high school senior and walked on at South Carolina in 1973. He won the job as the kickoff man upon joining the varsity in 1974. He also received some work on field goals and extra points as Coach Paul Dietzel shuffled between Young and Bobby Marino. His kickoff abilities were crucial in a 23-17 win over Georgia Tech in 1975, as three of his five kicks went for touchbacks. Young lost the kicking job to Britt Parrish in 1976 but served instead as the holder on kicks. Young went on to a career in radio advertising as an account executive.
