An All-American quarterback at Notre Dame High School, Zukowski also earned All-City, All-County and All-State honors as a senior in 1964. He would eventually be elected to the Notre Dame High School Hall of Fame in 2008. Zukowski was the starting quarterback on the 1965 freshman team and led the squad in both rushing and passing. Upon being promoted to the varsity in 1966 he was moved to defensive back. In the spring he was running second string at rover behind Stan Juk, but the coaching staff chose to redshirt him. In the spring of 1967 he took over as the starting right defensive end when Lynn Hodge went down with a broken leg. |
